Jambula Children’s Centre

This can be a night mare,,,,

Bwaise trading center (city outskirt), bordering Jambula zone. During the rainy seasons, this busy trading center gets flooded, with water that flows from as far as five miles, carrying with it rubbish, sewage etc. straight into the houses of the residents around here.

The impact left by this flood, which usually occurs for a brief period, is of great negative economic consequence for the residents of this area. In such an impoverished region, it only takes the work of a brief flood to magnify the already pathetic situation, leaving an economic gap that might be recovered just in time for yet another flood. This is not a natural calamity that cannot be avoided.

This flooding occurs during the rainy season. With proper drainage systems, such as the one above, and the regular maintenance of the same, this can be avoided. The community is however not in position to finance such drainage systems, the government can support with the help of the community. It is a challenge that can be overcome, if the necessary support is granted.
