“for those who are desperate, let us sow hope”

The pain of being helpless,,,

Since the AIDS epidemic hit Uganda so badly by 1993, we have had many moving experiences within our society. Friends, brothers and sisters we grew up with, are agonized and strangled at the hand of this terrible disease while we just looked on because we cannot help it. Many have kids whom they leave behind to nobody but the street because overwhelming poverty has run across the nation and nobody has enough for himself let alone for the orphaned children. This leaves behind a growing gang of street children who roam about the streets of Kampala, pick pocketing or picking from  the dust bin for their food. As for school and medication, there is no hope. They sleep on verandahs in the cold dark hours of the night, smoking weed to derive warmth, because that is what they have grown to believe.

Activities

Our activities target at improving the community as a whole, but most especially sowing hope to desperate children, like the street children, orphans and children in need. Traditionally the clan took care of orphans, but as traditionalism gave way to modernization, the latter also came along with disadvantages. Because of the complexity involved, we are destined to believe that suffering and poverty are inevitable. So is the case with the orphans and poor people suffering from AIDS. Most of them cannot afford even the basics of life, like water, food, clothing and shelter. The world gets so busy that often, against our will, we fail to offer the necessary support. It is not yet too late, we can do something.

The Challenge

We are faced with two major challenges right now. Most of the kind people that take up the street children in their homes are too poor to support them and they often have too many children at their hand. There are no proper grounds or classes for carrying out lessons for these children. We therefore need to build a home which can accommodate all our children and we also need grounds enough to have classrooms so we can continue to offer the education we are offering at the moment in a more favorable condition.
